An engineer can cancel out unwanted noise build up or unwanted frequencies that were difficult to tame in the mix; this can be cleaned up by knowing what to look for and what tools to use. Mastering can expand the width or size of the stereo image. Precise ears can expand the mix and balance a song to sound great across the many different types of speakers people will play your audio through. When mastering an entire album, you want to have a common ambience across the whole album. All the songs need to sound just as loud as the others; no unintentional differences of frequency control can be present; and it ultimately needs to sound like one cohesive album and not a bunch of songs on a mix tape.

  3. Instruments: Processed guitars, pianos, synths, etc.. together.
  4. Drums: All processed Drums together in one track.

2 Stems would be just the acapella and instrumental.
